A Worldwide Unique Combination Training Programme at the Ski Dome
Sport is all about energy, movement, and a passion for adventure – and that’s exactly what drives the entire Ski Dome team. That’s why we created something completely new: in autumn 2019, our worldwide unique combination training programme launched. It links a retail apprenticeship with a ski or snowboard instructor qualification, opening up exciting career opportunities for sporty young people. The concept is simple and strong: combine a retail apprenticeship with the official SBSSV ski or snowboard instructor exam. The motto says it all: 2 professions – loads of fun, plenty of variety, and outstanding career prospects.
Spending the whole day “just” sitting at a desk or standing behind a shop counter? For sports-loving trainees, that’s hardly a dream job. Our director Hermann Oberschneider knows this from personal experience. “My banking apprenticeship was tough. As a passionate athlete and skier, I could hardly stand sitting behind a desk all day. I quickly realised that a career in banking wouldn’t make me happy. As soon as I finished my training, I turned my passion for sport into my profession – and it was one of the best decisions of my life!” That’s why Hermann Oberschneider, together with INTERSPORT AUSTRIA, created an entirely new training path.
The worldwide unique combination training programme at the Ski Dome started in September 2019. It connects a retail apprenticeship with a focus on sports equipment with a ski or snowboard instructor qualification. Thanks to this programme, graduates earn two recognised qualifications at once. And the best part? A portion of the training takes place directly on the slopes. In addition, trainees gain in-depth knowledge in sport and tourism. This means more hands-on experience, more know-how, and far better future prospects than a traditional retail apprenticeship.
The combination training programme is led by Tom Kraus, head of our ski school. One aspect is particularly important to him: “Teaching in the ski school specifically develops the personal and communication skills of our young team members. Step by step, they learn how to confidently interact with people from different countries, cultures, and backgrounds. At the same time, their English improves naturally. This way, our trainees gain valuable skills that are not only essential for their careers, but for life as a whole.”
